The mandatory nature of reflection glare studies

Since November 2018, we offered the possibility to our clients to carry out reflection glare studies after the publication of our article Study of reflection glare in solar plants, there have been several companies that have requested this type of study from us throughout Spain.

From small solar plants located in conflict areas (close to homes, airports, helipads, etc.), to large photovoltaic installations (close to highways or highways with relevant traffic, airports, etc.), to installations on the façade or roof of public or private buildings, reflection studies have become one of the fundamental studies for many of our clients.

Are glare studies mandatory?

Although public administrations are not requesting these studies in a prescriptive manner, the Directorates-General related to road infrastructure and roads in the different Autonomous Communities are requiring them as a prior step to the approval of many photovoltaic energy projects due to the effect that these infrastructures could have on the roads.

Likewise, those municipalities with a certain entity that may sense that an installation of this type could affect citizens are also requiring these studies as an essential requirement for their building or activity license.

Finally, aviation-related entities such as General Directorate of Civil Aviation or the State Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) under the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda they are recurring bodies in allegations of photovoltaic solar energy projects. Not to mention the private entities that manage and operate airfields or helipads close to the solar energy project.
