ALBAMED is set to become one of the largest green hydrogen and derivatives production projects in Europe, aiming to put Albacete and Castilla-La Mancha on the European energy map. The ALBAMED hub stands as a catalyst for attracting foreign investment to Albacete. Its integration into a circular economy model and its capacity to store renewable energy strengthen resilience and adaptation to climate change, contributing to an inclusive and sustainable economy. It drives emission reductions in strategic sectors, job creation, and local economic dynamism.
The original plan, presented in 2023, aims to install a hub with up to 9 GW of solar and wind energy and 4 GW of electrolysis capacity by 2030. The total investment is estimated at over 10 billion euros to produce more than 1 million tons of green hydrogen and ammonia by 2030.
